Psychotherapy is the process that aims at raising awareness of the psychological factors involved in mental health and using strategies that lead to change. Psychotherapeutic intervention occurs within a therapeutic relationship based on the unconditional acceptance of the client, empathy, and understanding from the therapist, in a safe and confidential environment where goals are collaboratively set. During psychotherapy sessions, clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors with the therapist’s help in a space that encourages healing and change.
Individual Psychotherapy
These sessions aim to understand the psychological mechanisms involved in emotional and behavioral difficulties, apply techniques and strategies to manage emotional distress and problematic behaviors, and continuously monitor the therapeutic relationship and goals set collaboratively. The sessions last approximately 50 – 60 minutes and are conducted one-on-one (just the client and the psychologist).
Group Psychotherapy
Group therapy follows the principles of individual therapy but applies them in a group context with similar problems or goals, in a confidential and safe environment. Group therapy helps develop social capacities and facilitates obtaining social support from those going through similar life situations or problems. Psychotherapy groups consist of two to six people, and the duration of a group psychotherapy session is of about 2 hours.
Couples Psychotherapy
Couples therapy helps partners understand their relationship and identify possible issues in the couple’s dynamic to improve interaction, increase relationship satisfaction, and resolve interpersonal conflicts. Sessions last approximately 50 – 60 minutes and are held between the couple and the psychologist.
